Installation

Availability

Bright has no public release yet, so there is nothing to download today. Register for early access and we will email you when it opens.

Platforms

Bright is built as desktop installers for:

PlatformInstaller
macOSDMG, Apple Silicon and Intel
WindowsSetup program, 64-bit
LinuxAppImage, x86-64

It targets the VFX Reference Platform CY2026: Python 3.13, Qt 6.8, OpenColorIO 2.5, OpenEXR 3.4 and NumPy 2.3, with OpenImageIO for images and FFmpeg for video. The viewers use OpenGL 4.1 Core, so the graphics driver must support it.

First launch

  • Local graphs need no account. Open the app and start a graph.
  • OpenColorIO: Bright uses the config in $OCIO when that variable is set. Otherwise it uses the bundled ACES Studio v4 config with camera input transforms. You can choose another config in Edit > Preferences > OCIO (for this machine) and pick the working space per project. See Color management.
  • macOS: if a build is not notarized, macOS may block the first launch. Right-click the app and choose Open.

Settings

Machine settings (cache size, OCIO config, wire style, 3D navigation, hotkeys) live in Edit > Preferences (Ctrl+,). They are stored per machine, never in a project file. See Preferences.
