Render farm

The Moray render farm renders your frames on cloud GPUs, so a long animation does not tie up your own machine. You submit from Blender, follow the job on your account's Render farm page, and download the finished EXR files. It is billed by the second from the same prepaid cloud credits as Bright, and every Moray licence holder can use it.

The farm is in testing and not open yet. This page describes how it will work.

What you need

  • A Moray licence bought on vfx.systems, activated in Blender. The farm knows which account to bill from the licence on your machine, so there is nothing else to sign in to.
  • Cloud credits on your account. New accounts get a small free amount once their email is confirmed; add more at any time, or turn on automatic top-up.

Submitting a job

  1. In the Moray panel, open Render farm.
  2. Choose the frame range, the GPU (L4, or L40S for heavy scenes) and how many frames go to each machine (frames per task, 5 by default).
  3. Click Submit. Moray exports each frame the way Export RDLA Package does, with its own geometry, deformation, camera and motion blur, uploads the textures once, and starts the job.

Moray will not submit a scene that refers to files it could not package (they are listed as warnings), because the farm could not see them.

Following a job

The Render farm page lists your jobs as a table or as thumbnails. Open a job to see every frame: a thumbnail as soon as the frame is done, its render time, and its files (beauty with AOVs, and data, Cryptomatte or deep EXRs when your scene writes them). Click a frame for its download links and log.

A job can be paused and resumed, its failed frames retried, or cancelled. A frame that is rendering when you pause or cancel finishes first.

What it costs

You pay for the time the machines run, by the second, from your cloud credits: the GPU with 8 CPU cores and 32 GB of memory. The cost of each task is shown on the job page as it finishes, and every charge appears under Credit activity on the Cloud usage page. If your credit runs out, the job pauses; add credit and resume it.

How long files are kept

Uploaded scenes and rendered frames are deleted 30 days after they were written. Download what you need before then.
