Trial

Without a licence key Moray runs as a trial:

  • everything renders, with a watermark on the beauty and the AOVs;
  • Cryptomatte and deep EXR are locked;
  • farm renders with render.bat (Windows) do not write files.

While unlicensed, Render Properties shows one "Trial: watermarked" line whose button opens the licence settings. The trial needs no account.

Buy a licence

Buy Moray from the Moray page while signed in to your vfx.systems account. Payment is processed by Stripe, which emails your receipt. After payment your licence key is emailed to you and listed on your account page, where you can also free a seat.

A key comes with two machine activations (seats).

Activate a licence

  1. Open Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Moray. All licence controls live there.
  2. Paste your licence key.
  3. Click Activate License. Moray contacts the licence server once to register this machine.

An activation belongs to one machine and one user account on that machine, and uses one of the key's seats. After activation, renders are clean and Cryptomatte and deep EXR are unlocked.

Deactivate and move a seat

Click Deactivate in Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Moray to free the seat on this machine. Then activate on the new machine.

If the old machine is no longer available, deactivate its activation from your account page (for keys bought while signed in), or contact us with the order details. Then activate on the new machine.

Offline use

After a successful online check, Moray stays licensed for 7 days without a connection.

  • While Blender is online, Moray refreshes the licence in the background, so connected machines never reach the end of that window.
  • Offline for longer, it renders as a trial (watermark, no Cryptomatte or deep EXR) and the preferences say to connect and check again. Reconnecting restores the licence without activating again.
  • If the licence server rejects the key (for example a refunded key or a seat that was deactivated elsewhere), the local activation is removed and Moray returns to the trial.
  • A system clock set more than a day before the last check is not trusted offline.

Farm nodes

Linux and macOS packages render with render.sh. Windows packages render with render.bat, which writes files only with a paid licence: activate Moray once on each Windows node, in Blender, under the user account that runs the render jobs. Each node uses one seat. Details are in Farm rendering.

Refunds

To ask for a refund, use the contact form. A refunded key is revoked. See the Terms of Service.
